Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program
Accreditation
The ADN program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., which may be reached at
1-800-669-1656.
Purpose
This portion of the nursing program is designed for students who have already earned a Practical Nursing Certificate and wish to continue their education for an additional two semesters to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree. The program prepares students to serve as qualified members of the health team, rendering safe, direct patient care as beginning practitioners of nursing in a variety of health care settings.
After successful completion of the ADN program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nursing (RN). Students wishing to transfer should contact the Assistant Coordinator for Student Success.
Graduates of the PN program are automatically eligible for admission to the ADN program. Those who decide to wait a year or more before entering the RN program will need to take the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Bridge program. Students who completed their certificate of practical nursing at another school will also need to complete the LPN Bridge program.
